中間テスト The midterm examinations

こんにちは。

日本では新年度が始まりますね。

ここは１月が新年度で、学校は１年２学期制です。
ちょうど第１学期の前半が終わろうとしているところです。

前半終了ということで中間テスト前なのですが、私の学校の
中間テストの特徴は２点です。

①問題用紙は配らない（問題は黒板に書く）

②解答用紙も配らない（生徒が自分のノートをやぶって使う）

もちろん問題用紙・解答用紙をちゃんと配る学校はタンザニアでも
たくさんあります。が、ここの学校は印刷代・紙代を払うお金が
ないようで中間テストではそれをしません。

（学期末テスト・学年末テストはさすがに印刷します。）

というわけで試験開始時刻、この時間にはまず試験は始まりません。
試験監督の先生が黒板に問題を書かなきゃいけないからです。

通常１０分〜２０分くらい、長いときでは３０分くらい？かかり
ますかね。

問題写しが完了してからやっと試験スタート！という要領です。

私の担当科目、数学は図表や記号もあって１問ごとに場所をくう
ため、黒板に問題を書いていたら少しの問題しか出せません。
かつ、問題を写すだけでも相当な時間がかかります。

なので最近は、自分作成のテストは生徒数分のプリントを自費で
印刷して配ることにしています。

少し話がそれますが、ここで働く以上、基本はタンザニアの”やり方”
に合わせたほうがいいと個人的に思っています。
そしてこの学校の”やり方”、でいけばこの行為（自費で印刷して
生徒に配る行為）は規格外、というかそんなことする先生は他にい
ないんですが、生徒の学力向上のことを考えるとやはり紙媒体で
テストは行ったほうがいいと思うんですよね…。

最後に。

今恐れていること：全校生徒の数学のテスト採点。
　　　　　　　　　　所定の解答用紙がないので生徒は自分の好きな
　　　　　　　　　　順番にでたらめに問題を解き、紙に書きます。
　　　　　　　　　　なので非常に採点しづらいのです！

　　　　　　　　　※全校生徒で今は２７０人くらい。

　　　　　　　　　（大規模の学校に比べると楽なのですけどね。）

ここでの楽しみといったら、頑張ってる生徒の点数が上がることくらい
ですね。

なんと健全でしょうか（笑）

年度始めということで、異動があったり、周りの人の顔ぶれが変わったり、
色々とストレスや疲れがたまりやすい時期かと思いますが、くれぐれも

How are you?

April is coming, which is the begining of a new
fiscal and academic year in Japan.

In Tanzania, an academic year begins in January,
mayby a fiscal one as well, and threre are 1st
and 2nd semesters at school.

Now it's just near the end of the first half of
the 1st semester.

Thus, midterm examinations will begin from the tomorrow
and I would like to mention two characteristics of the
examinations in my school.

(Ⅰ) No question paper.（So a teacher should write questions on the board.）

(Ⅱ) No specific answer sheets.（Students must bring some pieces of paper by
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　tearing them out of their own notebooks)

Of course there are many schools which distribute question paper and answer sheets
in Tanzania. But my school doesn't in every midterm examinations because it can't
afford to buy paper and print it.

（Only in terminal and annual examinations, my school do that.)

So, even on a beginning time of the examination, students cannnot start the
exam because first of all, an invigilating teacher has to copy questions on the
blackboard.

It takes about 10 to 20 minutes, sometimes 30minutes, depending on kinds of
questions.
Not until he/she finished writing all the questions on the board, students
can start the examination.

You can write only a limited number of questions on the board if the subject
is mathematics, which I'm in charge of, because mathematics questions requre
lots of singns, some charts or diagrams and so on.
What's more, it takes more time to copy.

That's whay I print as many copies of question paper as the number of
students at my own expense these days every midterm exam.

By the way, I personally think I should basically adapt myself to the ways
of local people as long as I work in Tanzania.

In this view, my act above, that is printing copies at my own expense,
is not normal nor good since no teacher do such things.
However I am sure examinations should be held with question paper when
I consider which way of exam is better for students to enhance their academic
abilities.
So in this way, I have my own way...

I really hope those who are studying hard will get higher marks.

I try to do better here though I miss everything which I left in Japan.
