バイトの先生 Temporary teachers

こんにちは。
突然ですが、私のいる中学校に理数科目の先生は私を含め、３人います。

いえ、３人でした。

３週間程前から急に一人の先生がいなくなりました。

彼は数学・物理を担当する私以外の唯一の先生だったのでいわばパートナー
といえばパートナーだったんですが何の前触れもなくいなくなりました。
もう戻ってきません。

どうやら軍隊に志願しに行ったようです。

彼は教員免許を持っていない、非正規のアルバイトの先生だったんですね。

理数科の正規教員がいないため、短期採用のアルバイト先生をこうして結構雇っています。
アルバイト先生は、高校卒業したけれども、大学や教員養成学校に行けていない人達がなっている
場合が多いようです。

どうやら彼らはもともと１学期ずつの契約のようで、今回この先生がいなくなったのも少し時期が
早まったという形のようです。

（何を隠そう、この学校のもう１人の理数科教師もアルバイト先生（生物・化学担当）です。そして
　この彼も昨日からいなくなりました。）

実は本日まで期末テストだったわけですが、数学・物理を担当していた彼は手書きの（それも誤字・文
の脱落が間々見られる）テストのみ残して去ってしまったため、同じ科目担当の私としては採点など
含めその後の処置が大変でした。

ですが、先生がいなくなって一番被害をうけるは私のような同僚でもだれでももなく、生徒達ですよね。

彼不在のために彼担当のクラスは数学も物理もこの３週間ずっとありませんでした。
そもそも生徒は教科書を持っていないのに、授業もなければ勉強なんてできるはずがありません。

それを表してか、彼が担当していたあるクラスの数学は半分以上の生徒が０点、平均点が２点強という
衝撃の結果になってしまいました・・・。
（そもそものテスト難易度に問題もあるわけですが。）

"期間限定教師ではなく、長期的に働ける現地先生が充分に供給されること"

これは生徒達にとっても、教育レベルを上げるためにも重要なことだと痛感しています。

とはいっても状況的から考えて、理数科目の"正規"の先生はこの学校にはまだしばらく来ません。

来学期からは全学年の数学を受け持ちたいと校長に相談する予定です。

Hello.
I want to talk about the secondary school, where I'm working.
3 teachers , including me, are teaching science and mathematics.

Exactly, before 3.

Suddenly, one of them left school about 3 weeks ago.

He is only the one, who are teaching mathematics and physics, except for me, and
so he is a kind of my buisiness partner.
But he dissapeared without any notice to me.
He won't come back any more.

He seems to have gone to apply for the army.

Actually, he was just an unofficial teacher, whose contract is temporary and he has no
teaching licence.

Here, the number of science and mathematics teachers are very low and so shools are often
hiring such unofficial teachers just for a short time.

Such temporary teachers are usually those who have graduated from high schools, that is
secondary schools for advanced level, but cannot go on to the university or the teachers'
college.

They seem to make contracts with schools every one term. So the fact that my cowerker left
school might be no big deal and other teachers may think he went away "only" a little bit earlier.

（In fact, the other one science teacher in my school is also a temporary teacher.
He was teaching chemistry and biology. He also quitted the school yesterday.)

Until today, there were terminal examination in this school.
He, who was the teacher of mathematics and physics, had prepared for only the examinations before leaving.

But those examinations were just handwritten ones and moreover they had quite a few mistakes of vocabularies and lack
of sentences. He didin't prepared even for any answers of them.

So there were a lot of work ,such as marking ,for me as a teacher, who are responsible for the same subjects as his ones.

Yet, it is his students, not the coworkers like me that are given the most trouble by his absence.

His students could have no lessons for this three weeks because he was absent.
They have no textbooks. So without lessons, they cannot study of course.

That's maybe one big reason that over half of the students in one of his classes
got marks of 0 in mathematics this time and the average score of them was about 2points...
(I have to mention one more reason that the exam was too difficult by far for them.)

"Enough number of local teachers are supplied to each school, who can teach in the long period not in the short."

I really think this is very significant for students and for improving the academic level of them.

A new official teacher who can work thorough long terms , however, will not come to my school soon.

So I'm going to tell the headmaster that I would like to teach mathematics to all classes of all grades
from the next term.
