教育の現状〜前編〜  The recent educational situation here〜the first half〜

あと少しで新年度が始まりますね(もう始まっているところもありますね)。


人の動きも激しいかと思います。
日本は現在毎日を送るのも大変だと思いますが、どうかみなさん無理しすぎず無事で、
健康でいてください。



私は元気です。今日はこの前軽く触れた赴任先教育現場の現状について報告したいと
思います。




私の学校では1日に40分授業が9コマもあるのに、日本の教育に比べ、生徒は教育を
きちんと享受できておらず、かつ、学力もかなり低いです。


その理由として今考えているものを挙げます。
※現段階の考えなのでこれから追加・補正する可能性大。


○理由

 ①授業の未実施、または実施方法の問題
 ②教科書・ペン・定規などの不足または欠如
 ③シラバスの欠陥(それに起因した、教科書の教える順序・レベル・方法の質の低さ)
 ③空腹・病気、あるいは気候的なものからくる生徒の集中力欠如




長くなるので今日は①についてのみ、少し詳しく書きます。


  【「 ①授業の未実施、または実施方法の問題」について】


   以下先生達の行動を列挙します。


    ・先生が授業に遅刻あるいは欠席
     理由は様々。
       ティーの時間におやつをゆっくり食べてるからだったり、理由はわからないけどなぜかずっと職員室で他の先生と雑談を続けていたり、
       または突然職員会議が開かれ、先生全員が授業を抜け出して職員室に行かなければいけなかったり(その間生徒は放置)等々。
    (注)ティーの時間…タンザニアには習慣的にあり、学校では20分休みがそれにあたります。
                  ティータイムの時間、先生はそのときに紅茶とおやつを食べています。
  

    ・1人の生徒に板書案だけ渡し、これ黒板に書いといて、と言って授業中はどこか外に行く。
     その間その生徒がその紙に書いてあることを黒板に写して他の生徒はノートをとる。


    ・1クラス1クラス教えるのがめんどくさいからか、2クラス合同で教える。
       そのとき通常の2倍の生徒(1年生だったら90人・2年生だったら60人くらい)が1つの教室に入るため、もうぎゅうぎゅうづめ
        (机やいすはもちろん全員分入らないのでけ合っている)。
         生徒の集中力・授業の統率の面など色々な点から考えて指導効果が高いとは思えない。






上記のようなことから私の価値観からいくと、普段あまり熱心に授業が行われおらず、先生たちは教えること自体に
誠実だとは言えません。
これが生徒の成績不振の1つの原因にもなっていると思います。


ちなみにそのような実態はもともと前任の方から聞いていたので覚悟はしていました。
それでもやっぱりいざ生徒を目の前にしてそのような現場を見ると衝撃ではあります。
(この学校がそうだからと言ってタンザニア全土、全ての学校がそういう実態であるわけではないです。学校により多少、
 あるいはだいぶ状況が違うはずです。)


しかし、タンザニアの方と私のような日本人とでは築いてきた文化や価値観が違うわけで、彼らには彼ら自身のものさしが
あるので、いきなり来た私が彼らのことを理解しようともせず「あなた達がやってることは間違ってる!」とするのははた
また価値観の押しつけになっちゃうような気もします。




現在のあり方になった経緯や彼らがなんでそのようなことをしているか、生徒はどう思っているかについてもう少し調べた
あとで自分なりの意見を持てたらなと思います。

April is coming soon, which means the start of academic and financial year in Japan, which I really pray for every day.


How is your life going?
As for me, I'm fine.
I want to inform you of the education here, which I talked a little bit before.


In spite of the time schedule which tells the students to take 9 lessons (each 40 minutes)every day, comepared to the
education, which I have experienced,they cannot be taught in the accurate way and more, their academic ability is very low.

I enumerate the reasons of that which I can guess now.
※Please remember that those reason are changeable because they are the ones I can thinking of now. So there are a lot of
possibilities that I would improve the reasons or add another reason in future.


○REASONS

 ①Lessons are not delivered or there are problems in the way lessons are deliverd
 ②The absence or shortage of textbooks, pens, rulers and so on
 ③faults in the syllabus(As a result, the low quality of the order in which each topic is listed in the textbooks, the topic
   which textbooks tell teachers to teach students and the ways of explanation which are written in them.)
 ④The lack of the cencentration of the students, resulting from hunger,disease or weather conditions.




I state just ① in more detail today because it should be very long if I explain all.



  【" ①Lessons are not delivered or there are problems in the way lessons are deliverd"】


   I list the behavior of the teachers, who I'm working with, below.

    ・They are absent from or late for their lessons.
     There are various kinds of reasons of them.

        One is that they are eating snacks slowly in tea breaks. Another is that they are continuing to chat other theachers in the staff
          room although I cannnot understand why.
     One more is that wituout no advanced information, the staff meeting is held by the head teacher and so all of the teachers have
          to suspend ther lessons and join it (Of course during the meeting our students are neglected.).
      Except for them, there are other many cases and reasons as well.


    ※ Tea break… They have it every day habitually. The teachers have tea and some snacks in a 20 minute- break.


    ・Some of them hand students memorandums on which today's topic and explanation are written and they leave classrooms for somewhere else
            during their lessons. It means that one student is made write on the blackboard what is written on the memorandum and other
           students copy them on their notebooks.


    ・Some of them teach students by combining two classes to deliver joint lessons because they think it is tiresome to teach
   one class by one class.
           Of course twice as many students as usual have to come inside the one classroom (about 90 pupils in the 1st form
      and about 60 pupils in the 2nd form), and so the classroom is very very crowded (naturally some students have to
  share the same desks and chairs because the same number of the desks and chairs as that of students cannot be arranged in the one classroom ).
         I can't agree that this style is effective for learning from the ways of students' concentration and the command of the class.




From the above, I can conclude that lessons are not ordeinarly given in intense ways nor the teachers are honest in teaching itself.
I think this partly leads to the low academic ability of our students.


Well, I had prepared myself for the reality here because I had heard about it from my predecessor.
But still it makes me shocked to see such a behavior of them in front of the students.


(I have to say that in all the schools in Tanzania, teachers are not nesessarily like this though my coteachers are so.The academic situation
should be different to some or great extent depending on each school.)




I feel that it might be equal to forcing my sense of value on the local people for me, the foreigner,who started to live just one and a half
month ago, to say, "You are totally wrong." without any effort to understand them because they are originally different from me in culture,
the way of thinking and many other things.




First I want to investigate the background of the recent situation, why the teachers doing so and how the students feel it and then, I want to
make up my opinion.
